CENTRAL ANATOLIA
Central Anatolia
is a vast plain with a history of nine thousand years. There you
will visit the oldest city in the world : Catal Hüyük which dates
back to the neolithic age - 8,000 B.C. -. The Hittites settled there
at the end of the 3rd millenary B.C. Cappadocian byzantine decorated
churches were built in caves between the IVth and the XIVth century
A.D. In Konya you will meet whirling dervishes and visit the Sivas
Seldjoukid site dating back to the XIIIth century. It's also there
that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk chose Ankara as the new capital city
of the new Turkish Republic.
Lined by the
Tontic mountain range in the North and by the Taurus range of mountains
in the South, that barren region is about 1,100 m high. You will
enjoy the scenery with its volcanoes, the river Kizilirmak and its
high-altitude lakes. In the centre of Turkey, Cappadocia is a region
famous for its fabulous landscapes and the hospitality of its people.
So in that unique region you will find all the characteristics of
the Turkish culture.
